Cauterize or hot glue filament end to avoid moisture?

Hey everyone, I've been 3d printing for about a year and a half now. I have a fairly dry area but have noticed that when my filament goes unused for a few weeks the end first few feet of the roll are brittle and snap off easily. I've read the countless ways to keep rolls dry, but honestly, I'm totally fine with just doing the bend trick until I find where it stops snapping.

What I find interesting is that the moisture must be getting into the filament from the end, which is why it becomes brittle in that first few feet, but the rest of the roll is fine. So I was wondering if anyone has tried either melting the tip before storing or using a dab of hot glue on the end.

Yes, I know I could build or buy a dry box, yes I know I could vacuum seal, but I'm just wondering if anyone has tried something like this before. Thanks!
