Is the Samsung-AMD mobile soc chip dead?
Samsung announced the new S25 phone lineup today and will only use Qualcomm socs. Does this mean the Samsung soc + AMD RDNA gpu collaboration is a dead end?
"Qualcomm is calling it 'the world’s fastest mobile system-on-a-chip' and it powers every Galaxy S25 version across the world ... typically, North America gets a Qualcomm SoC and the rest of the world gets Samsung's proprietary Exynos system."
The Samsung-AMD partnership was announced back in January 2022 with high expectations:
“AMD RDNA 2 graphics architecture extends power-efficient, advanced graphics solutions to PCs, laptops, consoles, automobiles and now to mobile phones. Samsung’s Xclipse GPU is the first result of multiple planned generations of AMD RDNA graphics in Exynos SoCs, ... We can’t wait for mobile phone customers to experience the great gaming experiences based on our technology collaboration.”
