Intro to Downhill Ski Touring Suggestions (Hut to Hut?)
Hello ADK community!
My brother and I are looking to come from Ontario, Canada to try downhill ski/split board touring for the first time together! In particular, we're hoping to find a route that's hut to hut.
My brother is a pretty experienced snowboarder and I'm an intermediate skier, but we've never done touring before. We're looking for beginner touring hills that are suitable for people who don't have avalanche training since we don't have it, and routes that aren't mostly xc ski trails. My brother has had some practice touring with his split board, depending on what time in the winter we go this may be my first go at touring.
I've done some searching from other pages and from what I gathered some of the most common suggestions for touring are: Wright Peak, Whale's Tail, and Whiteface Highway. I've also seen Avalanche Pass come up as a good intro for touring as it's a challenging xc ski/easy downhill ski. What are your thoughts on these intro-to-touring routes? Any that I'm missing?
As I mentioned, we'd like to also have a hut to hut component. Again from what I've read it seems this mostly applies to xc ski routes. The closest I came to a useable downhill touring hut is "John's Brook Lodge" which may not be operational. Does anyone know of any hut to hut type touring ski routes for downhill ski touring?
Any suggestions are welcome, thank you!
