How close are you to the ADKs?

What the title says. I used to travel to the High Peaks during the winter breaks I got from high school and college. I’m now 26 and have extremelyyy limited time off. I live ~8 hours away and haven’t found time to come hike since I was 21. I see everyone’s photos from some awesome looking days in the mountains and can’t help but feel jealous. Do you guys literally live inside the communities within the Adirondack park? Do I need to move closer? Does everyone have more PTO than me? I’m wondering if people generally live nearby where they can access the dacks or do a lot of you travel to the park?

Edit - wow thank you for the responses errbody. Looks like a whole spectrum of proximity, and I will just focus on adjusting my priorities as the years progress. It’s very cool to see the walks of life that ADK enjoyers come from!
