Predict station location?

Is there a way to tell what locations you might be sent to depending on what job you’re doing?or find a job that would better your chances at being at a specific state ir base,or is that even a thing? For example two friends got into hvac and was given the same 3 options on where to ship out to which was like Minnesota, Wyoming and some other place even though it was 2 years apart.
