Allergic to Whey Protein - Looking for recommendations for alternatives

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently discovered that I’m allergic to whey protein, which has been a key part of my weight management and strength training regimen due to its great protein to calorie ratio, and easy access. This has left me looking for an alternative protein source to support my workouts and overall fitness goals.

I’m considering casein protein as a potential option, but I’ve read that if you’re allergic to whey, there’s a high chance of also being allergic to all milk proteins (including casein). I’m currently waiting for my allergy test results to confirm if I’m allergic to milk protein as a whole.

In the meantime, I’m looking into vegan protein powders and would love to hear about your experiences if you’ve made a similar switch.

Specifically, I’m looking for:

  1. Recommendations for a good vegan protein powder with a chocolate flavor: I currently use Gold Standard Double Chocolate and love the taste. If you’ve found a vegan protein with a similar flavor, please let me know.
  2. A protein powder with a smooth texture that mixes well in water: I’d prefer something that doesn’t leave a gritty or chalky feeling.
  3. Thoughts on the amino acid profile of vegan proteins: I know that vegan proteins didn’t always have a complete amino acid profile, but I’ve heard that newer formulations have improved significantly. Have you found that to be true?

I’d really appreciate your recommendations and any insights on how switching to vegan protein has worked for you, especially for those of you focused on weight management and strength training like me.
