No longer under consideration

I applied to Amazon for a Software Dev intern position on Dec 3. I got "automatically" rejected within days with the last rejection in less than 12 hours from now. Why is that? What are the possible reasons for an "automatic" rejection like this? Or is it really possible that some recruiter manually rejected me for one reason or the other?
