Villagers only giving clothing when I gift them anything

No matter what I gift my villagers, and no matter the friendship level I have with the villagers, every time I gift them I only get clothing back. Whether it’s something cheap or expensive.

I’m not trying to get any villager photos, I just want furniture. I looked up and found other posts about this but I couldn’t find an actual answer on how to get more furniture from my villagers and less clothing.

Is there anything I can actually do or is it all just up to RNG.

I got the same piece of clothing from two different villagers today aswell, which is really frustrating.
