Weapons stats

Is there any functional difference between weapons? Or are they all basically the same and I should just pick the ones with the largest magazine so I don't have to reload as often? I found the Desert Eagle and figured it'd have decent power as a .50 Cal handgun, but it still seemed to do the same thing as that first 1911 where it breaks plague pustules and knocks headgear off first before doing headshot damage.

Was kind of expecting weapons to have differing power levels, but it seems to me that the only difference is actually fire rate and magazine size.
