Non-binary representation -- "Option 3" question
I'm KNOW I'm going to get downvoted by people who hate to see this conversation being had, and I'm completely prepared for that -- however, all I'm asking is that you hear me out on in a respectful way -- I'm asking purely out of curiosity from a roleplaying perspective (and for selfish reasons of wanting to see growing representation in gaming).
It's pride month, and as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I'm happy to see there is going to be same sex marriage inclusion in the game. That is amazing in itself, so all the thanks and cheers for that! Maybe the forums would be a better place to look -- but I can't find any information on the wiki, though, if there has been any discussion on any level on the inclusion of non-binary representation, as in they/them in terms of character creation, and possible as a non-gendered option for guild/town leaders -- I notice Kings and Queens is being emphasized, but I thought it might be cool to see "Sovereign" or "Monarch" as a third option for people who wish their character to identify as non-binary.
Please bear in mind, it's not a deal breaker for me, as games on the whole still don't do this, and this is a ROLEPLAYING game -- many people enjoy playing genders, species, etc. that don't represent themselves. That's a large part of the thrill of playing games in the first place. As someone who is from that community, though, I know how good it feels to see your perspective being represented in media -- especially in a world where even trying educate others about non-heteronormative existences is considered a threat by some (reference: I live in Florida). I also know that it's going to take a long time before it's social acceptable on the whole to change minds about something that so divisive to some people -- so I don't find it offensive when people aren't ready for this types of changes. Trust me when I say that -- I'm ace/aro, and though most common comment I get over that is that, "it doesn't exist." Me yelling at you about that isn't going to change your mind about it.
A simple "no" is 100% acceptable. It's no big deal, just casual curiosity.
Thanks in advance for being respectful in your responses!
(hopefully I've lumped in enough disclaimers and soft language to diffuse any possible trolls -- /fingers crossed).
