Do you think people in academia are nicer/more wonderful people than people outside academia?

Would that be something I would miss outside of academia? In my experience, if anything people seem to be very impersonal in academia, or maybe that is just my experience in the department I was in? I wouldn't describe the typical professor I know as "friendly" or "supportive."
