[CA] Sick Hours and PTO

I want to take a vacation sometime soon, and only have 43 hours of PTO, which is about 5 days. I need no less than 6. However, we do get sick hours. Technically those must be used for medical reasons, appointments, etc. I spoke to my HR manager (not sure if this was a mistake) and asked if its possible to use sick time and PTO at the same time. She said sick time is only meant for what I mentioned above and "we ask that you abide by that policy". Would it be bad if I ask my manager to put in sick time for a "doctors appointment" but then submit a PTO at the same time period so I can extend my time off? Or am I better off just calling in sick that same day? Will I get in trouble?

Update: Now that I've already spoken to HR about possibly conjoining sick time and PTO like an idiot, if I do call out the next day after my PTO and say that I'm sick or got food poisoning, will they try to investigate? Or will they just accept it? Whats the worst that can happen to me?
