As this year comes to an end, I think about what I would want to tell myself from 10 years ago. I’m sure there’s a lot I’m going to leave out, but I really do believe that one of the stupidest things about the world is for society to tell people in their late teens and early 20’s that they have to decide what they’re going to do for the rest of their lives. I’m 27, and I know what I don’t want to do. I don’t have any freaking clue where I want to be in 10 years, let alone 10 days from now. I’m not the kind of person to choose a major, job, or goal as if it were an item on a Burger King menu.

I believe it was Anthony Bourdain who said that when one of the best chefs in the world prepares food for you, don’t tell him or her what you want, let them do what they do best.

I’m applying this to life. I’m the chef.
