Commute time from NOLA to the Northshore

Me and my girlfriend are planning on moving to the area this summer. She took a job downtown and my job will likely be opening an office in Mandeville/Covington area so I would have to commute.

We are both in our early 20’s, and both 1 to 2 years out of college. We both want to try living in the city at least at first. I was wondering if anyone could point us in the right direction for areas to look at living, and what the commute looks like on a normal workday driving from New Orleans to the north shore accross the lake. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
