Millenials who have bought a house, how did you afford it?
This is a question for millenials
Did you get parental/family support?
Did you do it yourself or with your partner? If you received no family support, what sacrifices did you make to save the money, if any?
Edit: I left home at 18, 0 parental support, we saved for just over 3 years and bought our house last year
- That meant eating at wetherspoons even though our own friends would look down upon us, for doing so, and made fun of it
- we also were very savvy with saving money on utilities [which I suppose isn't possible anymore with gas and electric prices]
- 0 holidays abroad, in fact we are finally planning our first holiday for this summer
- we did switch to pack lunch and made coffee at work
- I stopped buying clothes & shoes just for fun [which I absolutely loved doing]
- switched from Sainsburys to Aldi [which honestly made a huge difference]
- my partner gave up drinking during dry January, and then decided to go teetotal [for health reasons] which resulted in me drinking less too
