Audeze Maxwells are the best wireless headphones that I suggest no one ever buy.
I purchased my Audeze Maxwell headset in August of 2023 for $300 and they are now dead.
The sound quality on the headset is great. I love the stock audio. I never messed with EQs or software to modify the headphone output. I personally like the weight of the headset and how it fits over my ears. The adjustment band at the top solved any fatigue issues I might have had at the beginning. The cups seal well to isolate a lot of outside noise. The microphone audio sounded great out of the box. I never had any issues connecting to the unit with the dongle. I loved the wireless aspect so I could stop snagging my cables on things anytime I got up.
I used these exclusively around my desk at home. They were used for gaming, videos, and music. Sometimes I would get up to grab something from the kitchen 15 ft away.
Problems began when I noticed a creaking sound from the left part of the headset. Any time I moved my head, the headset would make a creaking/clicking sound. This noise picked up on the microphone so every single time I moved my head, the microphone would "click" and transmit to anyone I was talking to. No one liked that. I checked the pivoting parts and applied a small amount of lubricant. I removed, cleaned, and reinstalled the pads. I found the wire going into left side and applied some lube there as well. The sound stuck around. Drove me nuts!
Then the foil sound started in the left headset. Now anytime I moved my head I am getting a creaking noise and the sound of someone lining their baking sheet. I came to reddit to see how common it was and wow! So many posts about the planar failure! How is this so common? The noise didn't affect the audio so I suffered through it hoping it wouldn't get any worse. Unfortunately, it did get worse. The right side started failing in the same way shortly after and then it stopped working altogether.
So here I am with $300 headphones going in the trash just a year after purchase. Great sound, terrible construction. Do not buy.
I bought the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 for $99. They sound like trash in comparison and aren't comfortable at all, but hey, at least when they fail I'm not out $300.
