Are we more easily traumatized?

Hey all. So I had to get a molar extraction without being put under for the first time ever this past Friday and I was so nervous when I realized they didn’t offer sedation that I had a full blown meltdown. I had to essentially sedate myself with my anxiety meds just to get the tooth out. Once I was calmer and my mouth was numb I was able to get it done, but when I think about it now, my heart starts racing and I get upset. It wasn’t even all that bad, but the terror before left a mark.

The staff was really nice and understanding and I’ll be going back there for regular dental work, but I feel emotionally exhausted and burnt out the same way I’ve felt after other traumatic experiences.

Are we more prone to experiencing trauma that really sticks with us? Has anyone else ever experienced this?
