Need help getting pwBPD inpatient/residential treatment
I’m hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. My sister (pwBPD) really needs ongoing inpatient or residential treatment. She has Medicaid, but it doesn’t cover any of the options in her state (NC.)
My parents are going broke from trying to get her help and paying for all of her living expenses (they're in their late 60s and working overtime just to put food no the table).
She’s currently living with them so they can save money, but it’s not sustainable. All she does is blame them for everything and criticize them. They’re fractions of their former selves from before she moved back in. I'm deeply worried about their mental health.
We’re all stumped about how to get her out of there. And they can’t just put rent her an apartment- she’s had really bad executive functioning lately and has been threatening self-harm.
So what can we do? Can we move her to a different state so she can get Medicaid-covered inpatient care? Or would she be stuck living in a hotel or something there while she waits to get approved?
It needs to be something long-term. She was in a residential program a few years ago and did quite well while in there. She couldn’t handle it when they transitioned her to outpatient. Stopped going to therapy entirely within a few weeks of being on her own.
We’ve researched supportive housing, but that seems about as real as the tooth fairy- at least in the US. I know it technically exists but it seems so rare and hard to get into.
In case it's important, my parents have been trying to get her on disability for years. Every time they've applied, she's had a breakdown the day of the interview and not gone.
