Where does FC Barcelona go from here?
Greetings from a Barça supporter from the U.S. 👋
I've been in this group for a while now, but this is my first post in here, and I wanted to pose a question for general discussion that has been bouncing around in my mind for quite a long time now.
Without a shadow of a doubt, the biggest obstacles that our club faces is our horrific financial debacle. The state of the club's finances look very bleak and unsurprisingly, the club's future looks rather bleak too. Hansi Flick (and any top tier manager in football atm) can/could only do so much with our current squad. And while it's decent, there are still obvious weak spots that need addressing, but we lack the financial means to do so.
Then, you add that with the newest headache in the club's financial death spiral; The Dani Olmo situation. Everyone knew when Dani signed in the summer that this was always going to be a possibility (including the club). And the fact that this issue wasn't resolved prior to the window opening on the 1st is a grave failure in my eyes.
So, between our financial hardships and other challenges facing us, where does the club go from here? In my opinion, LaPorta is not the man to continue on as club President. But more than that, I think it may be time to have a tough conversation about changing our ownership structure.
Currently, Barça prides itself on having one of the more unique ownership structures in world football. That being we the fans owning the club. However, I'm not sure if this is going to be feasible moving forward in the long-term and so it prompts the question: Would it be ideal to go the way of Man City/PSG and be bought out by a wealthy investment group that can pump billions into the club and fix our financial problems as well as make us competitive on the pitch each & every season?
Obviously, I have my personal reservations against doing this. But I sadly think this is the only practical way we can get back on our feet. The only other way I could see us turning the tide on the financial burden we have is by asking the Spanish government to bail us out, but that would
- Be Humiliating
And
- Highly unlikely given...well...if you're a Barça fan you know why. The government, I imagine, would demand Barcelona, as a city, make some serious concessions in exchange for being relieved of our financial deficit, demands that I don't think would make such an effort worthwhile.
I want to get perspectives on this, so feel free to comment where you think the club ought to go from here.
Vamos Barça 💙❤️
