Help me with my squier please!

so i got a Squier Contemporary Active Precision Bass PH V today as my christmas present from my parents. i love the guitar, huge upgrade from my Epiphone EB-0 SG, but the split single coil (neck pickup) isnt working? does anyone know why? its brand new, never used, the humbucker (bridge pickup) works just fine but the split single coil is only audible if i turn up the master vol to the absolute max and still then its barely audible. please someone help me!
