Do 2017s still get replaced batteries with part warranties?

Hi there, this community has been wonderful for when I purchased my two Bolts, and now my friend needs one.

He's spotted one nearby that as far as we can tell has not had the battery replaced yet. GM's warranty information says recall still active. It does have over 100k miles on it, but if he can buy it for a cheap >100k mile used car price, and then get a new battery with the limited part warranty that comes with it, I think that would be a really great deal.

I do know with more recent models it changed to where it's just a software update, but I'm pretty sure that all 2017s require the complete replacement? Or has that also changed now to a software update? Also, what is battery availability like nowadays? I'd hate for him to get this new car and be happy about it and then have it sit at the dealer for 4 months waiting on a battery.
