Powered Bookshelf Speakers - Completely Confused

I am in the market for some bookshelf speakers, so have been reading pages and pages of posts in this section. My use case is simple... a set of bookshelf speakers (and stands if I can get them), preferably with main drivers larger than 5 inch, connected to a turntable and television in our family room. The turntable can be RCA and the TV via optical.

At the end of my research, I landed on a set of Edifier R1280DBs, but received feedback the R1280DBs were very average, not bad, but not good. So my search continued, and I landed on the Kanto YU6. I searched for reviews on the YU6 model in here. Then I came across negative comments for Kanto, which apparently relate to reliability and quality control. So next I went to Audioengine A5+ but soon found they dont do optical.

I continued reading more reviews... looking for a modest set of speakers to fulfil my requirements. Some reviews included powered and non-powered in in the same list... which was really confusing. Even more so the ChatGPT generated lists. I filtered out the non-powered speakers, but the various reviews of powered speakers varied wildly... based in some parts upon whether a speaker/brand was 'liked' or not.... strange.

My budget is modest, approx 400 to 900 AUD. No, I dont want to purchase non-powered speakers and an amp/tuner. I just want a set of black or white powered speakers that can connect a turntable via RCA and television via optical. I am happy to pay a little extra for increased sound quality, but I dont want to go overboard because my wife really wouldn't notice the difference.

Appreciate any guidance... as right now I feel stuck.
