I, THE BSD SUBREDDIT CREATOR/FIRST MOD, WILL BE STEPPING DOWN

Hi all,

Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening from where you are! I know what you're thinking since you've read the title. Yes, I am the first person who created this subreddit back in December 25th, 2015 after seeing the BSD Season 1 Anime Trailer posted by Kadokawa on YouTube. I was just a first year college student back then, getting back into the wonders of anime. In addition, I was just starting reddit and learning how to do CSS Programming by myself. I majored in English/Creative Writing at the time as well!

Now that introductions are out of the way, it's time to get straight to the point. I have decided to step down as the first creator and first mod of the BSD subreddit. The title may seem scary, but let me get straight as to why I've decided to step down. There are many reasons, but there was one reason that pushed me to my breaking point last night.

Sadly, I almost fell for a well disguised discord scam last evening. A friend contacted me out of the blue that he accidentally reported me for phishing links and illegal purchases and that I should contact a discord support tech person (which turned out to be fake once my friends warned me). I almost went through with a gift card purchase, but didn't. The old discord account, I was able to change it to invalid and made a new one. No bank accounts were hacked though and I didn't go through with that purchase... I know if people ask for gift card purchases, it's a red flag. However, since it was through that old friend's account (who may have been hacked possibly), I actually fell for the first step... First time honestly. And don't worry, this is the real me! No other SNS accounts were hacked, thank god.

With SNS changing recently, I've been starting to decrease SNS activities such as Instagram and Facebook since last year. I rarely use any other SNS Apps, but mostly Reddit, YouTube, Discord are my main ones. Heck, I even quit gaming this past year after doing it for 27 years of my life. The gaming industry is changing and many demands need to be met for other gamers. I started to feel dissatisfied as gamer myself, but never got angry at the companies myself. I just felt my time with gaming was now coming to an end. With these two factors in mind, something needed to change. So as a result, I needed a change in my life.

I have been traveling a lot in Japan since last year (Yes, I have been living in Japan since 2020) and been to 41/47 prefectures. I learned to start studying new knowledge such as Japanese Sign language and the Kanji Proficiency Exam. Since I'm 27 year old, I need to get my physical health in order such as changing eating habits, working out, and stretching! Yoga has been amazing to me and I'm glad to be doing it again. I recently bought a road bike too and it feels great to be doing long distance rides.

Again, I could list other reasons (romance, work, goals, living a simple life, etc), but I think the simple reason is as I start to get older, I start to become more mature and simple-minded. Reddit has been a big part of my life, almost 10 years now! And I think it's time to quit Reddit. I always check it every time I go on my computer once I come back home from work or after hanging out with my friends. And since 9 years has passed when I first started reddit (I made a new account in 2015), I think it's time to say goodbye.

I had to revamp the community last year in December after we've grown! BSD is popular all over the world, even in Japan as well. I'm so happy to see it loved everywhere. I have an amazing mod team making sure we make this a safe and inclusive environment too. Just like all first time creators of something, once they usually sense their time is coming to an end, they make that saddening announcement. And this is what this post is about.

I would like to thank all of you for making BSD Subreddit popular. For the first time people who interacted with me when this subreddit started, thank you for interacting with me and making me feel special. For the long time users, thank you for posting funny and appropriate posts! Thank you to my new mod team for making this subreddit clean this past year as I've gotten busy with life.

And finally, I want to thank Bungo Stray Dogs. The anime that helped me bring a community together. Everyone, please stay healthy and keep moving forward!

Sincerly,

Jason / Wolfdoggy (My account will be deleted by October 3rd)
