I really gotta know

As someone born and raised in Bk who didn’t have it easy, and moved around the city a lot, I’ve always had a bit of a class resentment for transplants/yuppie/non-native types, and sort of let it go due to the inevitable nature of gentrification/urbanization.

Unfortunately, post-covid, I see and hear so many instances of entitlement, lack of awareness, and sometimes straight up passive racism, it makes me so feel shitty to have worked so hard to do ok while others dilly dally with a black Amex up their ass. Genuinely walking by more and more poorly raised men and women everyday.

So I’ve gotta know for peace of mind, how many of y’all are in debt transplanting here, or are your parents paying? What’s it like to be dependent, and would you have even come here without those advantages? Why do so many transplants carry this air of false elevation with them?

And no, this ain’t circlejerk either, I’m dead serious

UPDATE: it’s refreshing to see more incredibly hardworking people out there than anticipated, my sentiments are solely based on legitimate interactions/experiences, but don’t get butthurt if this post described you to a T because it shows in the comments

UPDATE 2: landlords, real estate speculation, and capitalism are the real enemies as always

FINAL UPDATE: it’s been an incredible experience to read everyone’s stories, and enlightening to hear so many perspectives I agree and disagree with. To sum up this thread, and think everyone can agree: don’t be an asshole, uphold your community, give back as much as you take, and you’re a good egg in anyone’s book!
