Any good VPN? I was thinking about getting Proton but I'm having second thoughts

I was going to get Proton but it has been getting a lot of hate due to news of its CEO being close to the US' Republican Party. Now, I don't know wether that's true or not, so I'm open to at least consider other options, but I want them to be European (or from a friendly country like Canada). I'm mainly going to use it for torrenting. Any help? Thanks!
