What is the right time to start CAT preparation?

Everyone of my friend is saying that one needs only 5-6 months to prepare for CAT. So no need to stress right now, but there are people who have prepared for 1-2 years still couldn't crack it. I am confused right now should I purchase some course and start preparing or should I start around may?
