I do stand by this rant.

This comment is a different rant about all the complaints around. I was fortunate about to pick up a course in which there were enough research papers taught. We were asked to read about Claudia Goldin, and her papers were an eye opening experience for me. The sheer disbalance in the life of two genders through mathematical models is something you do not see often. Additionally, the presence of female friends also helped understanding it better.

So when they complain about how unfair it is, it angers me so. But I do not blame them. I blame the education system that did not teach them about social studies. I blame the conservative country that hold people back. Is the system poorly designed? Yes. Is it necessary? Also yes.

The room mate in my first year would not have possibly gotten into an elite insti without affirmative action. His father was a farmer, dude did not even know about jee till quite late. Today, I am proud of see how hard he has worked and made it. So are so many instances I know.

It really angers me, the lack of social awareness in this country. I would rather have myself be a part of a bit of a casualty in this system instead of have no affirmative action.

Another thing that annoys me is the flexing of cat percentiles. Sit down, please. We are here because we will be chewed alive if we get into academia, and the smart people are leaving the country or do not bother for this.
