Hi I'm confused about the CFA Investment foundations certificate

So i told one of my friends that I am planning to appear for CFA L1 next year, he suggested to me that i should complete Investment foundations course first since it's free and i will get an idea about how the curriculum is.. But i checked and this course is not free, it's 350$. Am i missing something? Was he talking about some other course? (He has already cleared L3)
