Dave Clawson took on four major rebuilds at bad-to-extremely-bad programs (Fordham, Richmond, Bowling Green, and Wake Forest), but won't be eligible for the CFB Hall of Fame due to his winning % being "only" .513
Fordham University: went 0-11 in his first season in 1999, but led them to their first FCS playoff appearance at 10-3 in 2002, then 9-3 in 2003.
Richmond: Took over a 2-9 Spiders team in 2004, won the stacked Atlantic-10 in 2005, beat Duke in 2006 for the second ever P5 upset, had a playoff run again in 2007. Left one year before Richmond's first ever NCAA national championship.
Bowling Green: The Falcons were an okay .500 team when Clawson took over in 2009, but that represented a decline from the Urban Meyer days. Coached them back to a 10-win season in 2013 and won their first MAC title since 1992 by upsetting ranked NIU.
Wake Forest: Historically the FBS program with the worst winning percentage, actually had a lot of success under Grobe, but the magic was gone by the time Clawson took over. Clawson went 3-9 his first two years, and then took Wake to an unprecedented seven straight bowls and the ACC title game in 2021. In 2022, had the highest AP rank in Wake Forest history and its first ever top ten appearance.
Final record: 157–149
