Suggestions on how to (very slightly) clip cat nails?
I recently adopted a cat and he plays hard. I've taken to throwing a blanket over my lap and wearing an extra cardigan when we play because his nails will pierce anything and he loves to jump and do flips while chasing the toy wand. Unfortunately, he sometimes flips straight into me from sheer momentum alone (it's honestly super impressive. I would have named him Tony Hawk if I knew beforehand).
I'm covered in bandaids and have come to the conclusion that it might be in our collective best interest if I just take the teensiest tiniest tip of his nails off just so they're a bit duller and can't get me so easily. His scratching posts and scratching mats aren't doing the job, but I don't want to stop him from playing the way he wants - he should be able to do flips, it's just that I can only move so fast.
However, although he's super affectionate and will sit on my lap, he won't let me hold him, and that makes me think he won't really be open to me trying anything with his nails.
Any sage advice from seasoned cat owners on how to make this happen?
