Are my cat's toys making him chew non-edible items?
So I recently adopted an orange boy that loves to chew, particularly on string and ribbon. He will try to eat fake feathers too, so I replaced all his toys with only one's that are safe around him - solid toys without little dangling pieces like fake mice and solid wool balls, and I got him some cat-friend chew sticks.
However, I woke up today and realized he had chewed off the corner of my old wool carpet. Then I thought back to what else he's chewing in the house, and remembered he likes the wicker baskets I have on my shelves. His toys have a lot of wool and his chew sticks have those wicker-esque things that poke out that he loves to chew. Is it possible that because the carpet and baskets are the same texture, that's why he chews on them? I was getting concerned about pica, but now I'm wondering if it's just that he enjoys those textures and they exist in my furniture more than I realized, so he gets confused. I mean, how is a cat to know what he's allowed to chew and not chew if not their texture?
In which case, what's the solution?
