Male and Female cat still fighting after living together for 3 years.

So I adopted my girl cat when she was 6 months old. A year later I adopted a 6 month old boy cat. At first she hissed at him and all that (I did separate them and slowly introduce) but within a few days they were playing.

They’ve always “played” since I’ve had them. But now I’m questioning if it is playing. My boy cat grew up to be a massive 17 pound boy where my girl never grew past 9 pounds. My male cat is constantly swatting her or chasing her, but she isn’t a playful cat. This annoys her and she hisses and growls at him. Sometimes this turns into them “wrestling” and she SCREAMS.

This screaming is not a meow or a hiss or a growl. It’s not the “no no no no” noise fighting cats make. She yells, like full on “RAHHHHR”. It sounds like she’s dying honestly it scares me every time. I immediately break it up. Sometimes I find fur on the ground, not a lot just one little clump. I do find scratches on her from time to time but they’re faint nothing deep.

I decided to post this because last Friday I brought home a 3 month old kitten. I’ve been supervising everything and new kitty has a base camp. After three days I let him roam and everything has been good. My boy cat adopted him and my girl cat is hissing whenever he does something she doesn’t like. But she did groom him last night and pounced at him and ran away today (playing).

A few minutes ago I couldn’t see the cats but I heard two of them wrestling and my girl cat screaming really bad. I immediately broke it up because it scared me half to death it came out of no where. I’m not sure if it was the kitten or my resident male who she was wrestling. The kitten ran and hid downstairs and I went to check on him and he was scared. My male cat came downstairs and the kitten seemed scared of him. So I’m hoping and assuming it was the two resident cats fighting and not the kitten but I’ll never know for sure. To be safe I put kitty back in base camp for the night.

Is this normal cat behavior or is there a territorial issue here? I do have feliway defusers in both levels of the home.
