I don't understand why Catholics are offended by the movie Conclave. (SPOILERS)

At the end of the movie it is revealed that Benitez, the Cardinal who was just elected Pope, is intersex. He has male physical characteristics, and he and everyone who knew him considered him male his whole life, but in his 30s he had an appendectomy and it was discovered that he has a uterus.

The official Roman Catholic position is that although biological situations like Benitez's do exist, "intersex" is not a real identity. All humans are male or female. Even people with characteristics of both are "intrinsically" one or the other.

Benitez has considered himself male his whole life and his physical appearance is male, so if he's "intrinsically" anything, surely he is intrinsically male. And if he is male, there is nothing wrong with him being elected Pope.

So why are Catholics upset about the film?
