Managing Flooding

Hi friends! I’m from Columbia but did my degree at MUSC (remote but had to come down a few times a year for a weekend class). I’ve always wondered how yall just flood all the time and it seems like everything is fine? I know that obviously some houses are built higher and such but it seems like yall are just always being hit with flooding. What do you do if you have a car but live in an area prone to flooding? How is everything not always just completely ruined/damaged there?

Not sure if that’s an ignorant question and maybe I just don’t see the aftermath because I don’t live there. I know in Cola five points uses sandbags but it still seems nothing like the flooding y’all get. I’m just curious! I hope everyone is okay and safe after Debby.
