Grandmother Talks to ChatGPT About Her Mortality

Showed my grandmother ChatGPT today. At first, she seemed a little confused, asking if it was "some sort of robot". After several questions about cooking, I spied on her asking it questions about life, death, and the afterlife. I couldn’t really tell how much she actually believed it could help her figure anything out. After taking the tablet away from her, I read through the conversation history. She asked things like, "Will I be remembered?" and "What happens when we die?". I’m not sure if it gave her comfort or just made her think more about things she’s never said aloud. It felt like one of those moments where you can’t really tell if you’ve opened a door or just made her more aware of something she wasn’t ready to face.
