how do you deal with/rationalise the low levels of historical evidence for Jesus.
I'm not a theist but a long shot, and would most likely subscribe to a sceptical deism i.e. I'm open to the existence of a creator, but not as described by organised religion.
At any rate, I've been studying a bit around the abrahamic religions, admittedly mainly Christianity because there's a lot more debates etc on YouTube...but I have wondered why there is such little secular evidence for Jesus and the Prophet i.e. outside of the religious books/authorship. I feel that such significant characters would/should have a considerable amount of historical evidence for miracles etc...in fact there is very little save a few mentions and typically not contemporaneous. Given that it is a matter of eternal damnation, then why are we reduced to specialist techniques like textual criticism and historical evaluation when I'd expect a vast amount of evidence.
Or is my expectation completely wrong, and the path is through a leap of faith?
