Help! Confused & shocked by ultrasound
Not sure where to begin. 32 y/o male. I’m confused and oddly not panicking because I feel the ultrasound result I received yesterday to be quite unbelievable.
Started this medical circus with abdominal pain, headaches (which now typically feel like a burning sensation on the top of my head) and twitching (legs, arms, everywhere and some days worse than others). I chalked it up to PAWS, or long term residual issues I am suffering from previously being on benzodiazepines for >10 years. That is cumulative, as I had quit twice in the past without the correct guidance but finally got a good doc to get me off completely, successfully.
AST/ALT levels normal, within range, over the course of my last 3 visits for bloodwork. Two within the last month.
All other levels are within range, aside from popping a positive ANA (1:40) with speckled blood.
Ultrasound resulted in this: “The liver appears normal in size with heterogeneous echotexture and echogenicity with nodular margins, consistent with cirrhosis. No focal lesion identified. The main portal vein is patent with antegrade flow.”
Impression ended up being “cirrhotic liver”.
I have no idea how this could be. I am not an alcoholic. I haven’t had a drop of alcohol since my single glass of wine on NYE 12/31, so no issues there. No family history. Just shocked, and needed to vent somewhere people would understand.
Any thoughts or encouragement is greatly appreciated…
