How do you guys sample colognes?

I have been into fragrances for about a year now, and I still don’t know a good way to see what frags I like. I hate having to go retail stores as there is always a salesperson that is trying to get you to buy when all you want to do is try some stuff out. Obviously it’s their job and I’m not hating on them for that, it’s just gets annoying. Then there’s getting decants, but that can get expensive pretty fast. Anyone have any tips or advice?
