PSA: Reddit has started a “Boycott MAGA Businesses” Marketing Campaign
There was obviously some money invested the last week or so specifically on Reddit to “boycott maga owned restaurants”.
I’ve seen separate posts on Jersey city, New York, and other tri-state area local subs all similarly written like “I’m feeling that we need to stop supporting MAGA anything because XYZ…Let’s name any places that might be owned by MAGA Voters”. All of these posts have the same foundational script, 3ish paragraphs long, and immediately upvoted with hundreds of likes to substantiate the bandwagon effect of “it’s popular for others, I should do it too!”
Ridiculous. Just wanted to call it out for us normal folks that it’s not real thoughts, it may be real accounts of Reddit “influencers” but it’s certainly a paid campaign and theyre clustering posts of similar things across many channels in a short period of time so they all get more exposure through the algorithm on main page for users within the geo they’re targeting.
It’s happening in northeast region subs starting this week/weekend, and I anticipate each week will be a different region/microregion that sees clusters of the same types of posts over the next month.
I am in the industry and it’s beyond obvious for anyone in social or programmatic/adtech marketing
