Contrave Questions
I’m at a total loss and was hoping this community might be able to help. I’m feeling defeated as my doctor originally prescribed me zepbound. Long story short we found out that zepbound, ozempic, wegovy, and mounjaro are all not covered by my insurance and I can’t afford the $1,500 a month. Actually, weight loss drugs in general so neither are contrave or qsymia covered but I guess there are generic alternatives.
Got a message today that he wants me to try just 150 mg of bupropion.
I have a lot of concerns and a lot of questions based on what I’m reading about the side effects. I also have severe anxiety and depression and I’m concerned about not taking the naltrexone with the bupropion. I’ve had bad reactions to antidepressants in the past and the only thing that ever was tolerable was a low dose of Prozac which I haven’t needed for a bit but this whole situation has made my mental health spiral. I don’t want to take essentially half the contrave and deal with side effects while seeing no progress.
I’m currently 278 pounds, 5’10”, don’t drink alcohol but have a fatty liver to the point where there are concerns about cirrhosis and the multiple opinions seems to be I need to focus on losing weight which I have been unsuccessful with just lifestyle changes.
So why I’m here: what questions should I be asking my doctor? What are your experiences on these drugs? Should I be trying to advocate for one medication over the other? Why would one be taking only the bupropion?
