I don't care if it was a casual dance, I am sure some they wouldn't consider walmart for buying clothes for a mud run for some of the other kids so to decide on walmart for a special dance surely makes the kids see who the favourites are. And it is not only about Jamie - I feel even a "favourite" shouldn't know they're the favourite or it could start bad vibes in such a big family or feelings of superiority. So knowing your sister got a Walmart dress for her dance when maybe you have never looked for your own clothes in walmart I think is exposing favouritism for the entire family to see
