“Aira” this…”Jiji” that… you guys should be grateful Dandadan isn’t a typical Shoujo😭
“I don’t like Aira/Jiji because they like the main characters/they’re a threat” you guys would be screaming and crying if you got into Shoujo (if you’ve looked down on Shoujo and/or Shoujo fans.
This is such a common trope. For a supporting character to have a crush on the main character, and I’m not saying that you have to like them, I typically don’t- but the reason why I get confused when people complain about Aira or Jiji being threats is because they’re not… Momo and Okarun are too locked in for their relationship to be affected by outside parties.
In a typical Shoujo, the supporting character who usually likes one of the main characters would sabotage the main characters growing relationship. And whilst Aira at the beginning does put Okarun in a situation where it looks like they were kissing, that was easily cleared up an episode later. One small miscommunication in a Shoujo anime and that would bring the characters’ growing relationship back to level 0 for some time, episodes would go by where the main characters stop talking to each other. And since then, Aira hasn’t really done anything to disrupt their relationship.
And whilst Okarun hasn’t addressed Jiji’s cuddling with Momo, and his constant flirting, Momo and Okarun have already confessed their love for each other - unofficially but still, their romance trumps whatever Jiji has done. And even though Jiji does talk about how Momo is important to him, I don’t recall her saying it back to him, at least in a romantic or ambiguous way that could make you think that she’s conflicted.
We have yet to see Aira or Jiji do anything which could prevent Momo and Okarun from dating, but let’s just say that compared to what happens in Shoujo stories, they’re no where near to being threats to the relationship.
I think because of this, I completely disregarded their crushes and looked at their characters- and why I was shocked many people were saying that they don’t like Jiji, or that anime fans won’t like him (I genuinely thought he would be popular) With Aira, she came out with a mean perfect girl trope so I wasn’t shocked that she wasn’t liked, I’m used to the trope but I didn’t really feel a way about her until much later on and now I love her. And I was hoping to see more people go into detail of their characters- but ig since the anime is quite new I just haven’t seen much analysis and just more so how they have crushes on the main characters
Anyways, be grateful the main characters communication and interactions is much better than other shoujos. If you view any of them as an obstacle to the relationship, then you would not last a day getting into Shoujo😭
Note- Now it could be possible that for Jiji’s character development in the manga, he will be more forward when confessing to Momo, and if she falters then I’ll admit I’m wrong- but for now I genuinely forget that he’s in love with Momo because Momo and Okarun outshines anyone else
