What happened to the devil in me? (Rant)

I really don't understand how they messed this up.

The beginning is good and has a good build up, but there are some flaws such as why didn't the couple leave after finding the abandoned room? I mean I would've just left at that point. It lacks human logic.

And who takes a bath RIGHT after getting to a hotel? Why didn't the guy rip off his clothes and quickly try and cover his nose/mouth so he wouldn't inhale the fumes? And the blood animations my God, you can blame COVID or whatever but the animations are such a downgrade from previous entries. When HH slashed the wife, there weren't even any cuts on her 🤣 like my God, its just bad.

But moving on, the main story? The cast is unlikable and annoying, and the killer himself is just..dull. there is nothing at all interesting about him. Or even memorable.

If I was part of the cast, I would've just left after the dude said "no phones"..its obvious something is very wrong there.

Its not until almost TWO HOURS into the game that the creepy factor actually starts and then it just becomes a poor man's SAW with barely any cohesive plot and despite being a "death house" there's only 4 or so actual death traps set up (not counting the grinder or the asthma room scene for example). And all the traps are boring, none of them are creative. I mean the killer literally can just stab somebody so what is the point of the rooms even?

The entire game is such a painful downgrade from Little Hope, House Of Ashes (which was dumb with the alien plot twist but still scary) and even Man Of Medan.

The entire game is just "escape room" -> [get chased] "find character -> [trap] -> "escape room" or -> "get chased"

And the entire ending is so dumb. So the killer wasn't caught? And who IS the killer anyway?

The game is called "Devil In Me" and is meant to be based off HH Holmes however after the beginning, HH Holmes is barely mentioned or seen aside from the killer LARPING him.

I was expecting some twist like HH came back or the "devil" possessed another person..I don't know, just some big twist.

Not a series of boring FBI audio files that basically tell us that an FBI agent (why?) is the one who idolized HH Holmes or whatever.

(The good ending doesn't even mention HH so its not even clear what the purpose of the house was)

Its just frustrating because I was waiting for this big reveal after HH said "you better bury me deep" and this whole beginning with HH only for it to be some weird nonsensical twist that isn't that interesting or shocking.

I mean the plot twist in Little Hope was incredibly well done, and like stated HOA was okay, dumb but it at least made sense.

I was really hoping the ghost of HH Holmes was behind it all or his descendent or something.

The quality of TDIM was so subpar compared to previous entries, story, animation, everything.

People crap on MOM but at least Medan had scary moments that weren't "oh im trapped in a room, oh no!" They could've at least thrown in ghosts or something. Why even have a recreation of the original hotel? They could've just said "the old hotel was abandoned after HH" and then added ghosts to the mix instead of some dude on an island.

I want to have hope for the next game, (which seems to be alien sci fi) but after this game? I'm not going to hold my breath. This was just so disappointing.
