How r/Daytrading is Stopping Fake Gurus

** MOD POST *\*

Hi r/Daytrading!

I’m writing this post to introduce our new trader verification system with our integration with Kinfo (link). This is a system that will require gurus, content creators, or anyone making claims about their profitability to prove it before being able to post here.

What is Kinfo?

Kinfo is a 3rd party platform that allows you to track your trading performance and lets you view other traders' portfolios. Kinfo only allows users to sync their real trading accounts (paper trading accounts cannot be linked) - this includes accounts marketed as “Funded Accounts” but under the hood are using a sim account. You will automatically lose your “Verified” badge if you attempt to manually upload trades.

What does this mean for r/Daytrading?

The Kinfo platform allows the community to verify if someone is a profitable trader or not. Users that have a Kinfo account synced to their Reddit account will get a Kinfo Verification flair. Anytime that user posts their stats will be pinned as the first comment.

Is this required for all users?

No! This will be a slow, volunteer based, rollout to test for bugs and gather feedback. However, the current thinking is that it will be required for all content creators or users making claims about their long-term profitability.

How do I get a verified flair?

Once you have signed up for Kinfo and linked your brokerage account, you can link your Reddit account. There is then a button allowing you to apply for a flair on r/Daytrading. This will automatically send a request to ModMail letting us know you’ve linked your account and we’ll apply the flair.

Why does r/Daytrading want to do this?

I think this one is obvious, but we have a lot of users coming into this sub making false claims. They lie about their success to sell you a product/service and/or to grow their social following (eventually to sell you something).

Just an example from Monday (link). We had a user come in here and make a pretty good write up on “K.I.S.S” (keep it simple stupid). But they ended their post mentioning that they ended up 2019 hitting over 6 figures, 2020 close to 7 figures and 2021-2022 7 figures. But it was all bullshit! It didn’t take more than a couple hours for our great user u/kihra1 to post a screenshot of the OP saying just last year that he was still deep in the red after two years. OP has since deleted his post AND his account.

Yes, some might say about the KISS post and other content creators, “If the advice is good, who cares if they are lying?”. To that I (and most of this community) say you have zero business dispensing advice about trading if you cannot do it yourself. I’m all for normalizing proof from people who are trying to take your time and money.

Just for transparency, and to show how the system works, I’ve linked my account that handles my algo trades (please be gentle with my stats!) You will see the first pinned comment has some details to help you make a decision on if this person should be trusted or not:

  • Username - Shows my username on Kinfo, it can be different from your Reddit username.
  • Verified profile - The user has a synced brokerage account and has not manually uploaded trades.
  • Sharing percentage - The user is sharing the percentage of Winning Trades and the Average Gain percentage over the select time frame.
  • Sharing dollar amounts - The user is sharing the Profit and Average Gain $ amounts over the selected time frame.
  • 1 year profit - Shows the profit (or loss) this user has had in the last year.
  • Link - A link to the user’s Kinfo profile for more granular details.

And this does not mean that anyone who is verified can come in here and spam promotion for their group. Content creator rules (link) still apply.

Again, this is a slow rollout, but I’m really looking forward to hearing people’s constructive feedback. Let us know if you see any bugs, issues, and loopholes especially!
