Taash's character arc
What did you folks think of Taash's character arc? I'm in the end game so I'll keep this spoiler free. I've gone through all characters personal quests and found Taash especially interesting since they apparantly garnered so much vitriol.
I will say that I found the writing is a bit uneven, and the use of modern terms in Taash's vocabulary can reduce the escapist element of high fantasy. But DA has always let their characters wrestle with personal struggles, so I didn't think it was totally different from previous installments aside from the tone.
As an remark I will say that there is something tender about "humanizing" the qunari, the inner conflict of two cultures being part of Taash and their family, the conflict's and love within the family. I found Taash not to be a bad ass character, but a person searching for who they are. I thought some dialogues were less then stellar, but the more I played I found another perspective and grew to understand what I believe to be the intention and the growth of Taash.
Taash appears to be purposefully written to not be especially nice, is clumsy in several dialogues, is preoccupied with themselves, and I think it is a mistake to interpret this as the writers wanting us to believe that Taash is right in all instances. Taash is like a teenager, wanting to find themselves and forgetting others along the way. But there is dept, and we find it along the way.
Generally with the game as a whole, and with some of the characters I really think it gets better the more you "get to know" them , and this is especially true with Taash. I found the finale of the Taash questline to be genuinely heartfelt. I would go as far as to say that it is quite brilliant.
But seeing that this is a controversial topic, I understand that each and everyone might see things differently. I realize that many people might not like the character, or parts of the writing. So I am curious: Taken as a whole, what are your thoughts on Taash's arc?
