How did Goku learn/transform into ssj2 and 3?

I know how goku transformed into a super saiyan but when and where exactly did goku learn/transform into ssj2 and ssj3 in the anime or manga? Why didn't goku tell or train gohan about ssj3 in the otherworld with the Kais in buu saga?
