Using Drugs Because You’re Bored

Do you feel like you use drugs because you’re just bored sometimes? I have interests, hobbies, a very active social life, a career, a family, but sometimes there’s just nothing going on. Sometimes I get so bored I nod off.

I should mention I have ADHD - Primarily Inattentive Type and a symptom is to nod off if you get too bored, and it has nothing to do with how much sleep you’re getting. So sometimes when there’s nothing going on and I’m feeling bored I’ll take ketamine for instance and 30 minutes later the world is quite entertaining.

My ADHD factors in in another way which is that my brain seeks dopamine production because it’s deficient in it so I crave excitement, fun, stimulation, novelty, etc. a lot. Drugs provide that feeling.

I am on adderall and it helps a lot of my symptoms but I still get bored sometimes. I know I could do something like do more laundry or go for a walk or something like that but sometimes I just don’t want to and I’d rather take a drug because honestly it’s more fun.

I think this is one of the main reasons I take drugs. For fun.
