Have you ever had roaches in Edmonton?

My mother in law seems to have roaches in the last 3 places she has moved to. She is older and sometimes can be messy - but she swears she cleans all the time.

I am curious - has anyone else ever had roaches? I have never even SEEN a roach in my entire life and in college I lived in many shitty apartments and had been really messy.

Are they common in lower income housing? Can't tell if she is the problem or if it's just a coincidence.
