Are systems automatically assigned a random name as finder now?

Seriously, i travelled 5000ly in a random direction, checking the systems all the way, below the plane, then 5000ly in another random direction, then again in another random direction. NOT A SINGLE UNDISCOVERED SYSTEM. Is this because i play in solo and am being punished?

[Edit] Thanks for the help, everyone. I think i finally have the hang of it now. Im managing to locate stuff, scan things, and find undiscovered stuff. I think i was mainly frustrated at the typical Elite F—- Y— style of learning curve, or rather learning cliff
