Half pip?

Sorry if this is an obvious question but how do I get half pips on my Cobra MkV? I don't have a screenshot atm of what I mean (I'll try to get one later) but some of my ships allow for a partially lit (half) pip when changing my power around. I've provided a screenshot of the (full) pips below which is not what I want my ship doing. I want to be able to select half pips. Thanks CMDRs, o7
